The last few weeks, we've had a couple of opportunities to go up in the mountains and spend a few hours roasting hot dogs & marshmallows and just playing. It's a great way to escape the heat of the valley and enjoy the beauty around us. We are lucky to live so close and hope to be able to get up there a few more times before the baby comes.
The first time we went up with our friends Adam & Sarah and their kids. The kids had a great time throwing rocks into the river. Addie liked helping to roast the marshmallows. It was a lot of fun!
We went up a week or so later with Clay's family. All the kids loved helping roast the hot dogs & marshmallows. Addie spent quite awhile just sitting in the chair roasting a hot dog (too bad she doesn't eat them)! The cousins all had a great time exploring, playing and throwing rocks in the river.

The weekend after the 4th of July, we headed down to Fillmore for a family reunion with my other side of the family! We were a little skeptical about going to Fillmore (it's a really small town in the middle of nowhere) in the middle of July but it ended up being a fun time.
Addie and I rode down with my parents Thursday night and then Clay drove down late Friday night to join us for Saturday. Addie had a blast playing with the kids, riding bikes on the awesome bike path, and playing on the jungle gym.
My Great Aunt Lu planned a Penny Carnival and it was a huge hit! The kids loved the fanny packs for their pennies and Addie is still playing with her prizes!

Friday night we went swimming at the city pool and they had a little pool that was only 1 1/2- 2 ft. deep for the little kids- and they loved it! Addie loved being able to stand in the water by herself.
That night, she wouldn't go to sleep without her sunglasses she got as a prize from the games. I went to the bathroom and came out to find her wearing them while she watched a show!
Saturday morning we went to a park and had breakfast and took pictures with everyone. Then that night finished up with a second bean bag competition that was a lot of fun. My mom and I didn't fare so well but Dad & Clay won the whole thing!

Addie passed out on the car ride home- stayed asleep once we got here and slept till 10 the next morning! It was an exhausting weekend for her!

As part of our nightly routine, we sing songs to Addie. Usually it's church songs or lullabies but sometimes it's the Brady Bunch theme song (or the Lady Bunch as she calls it).
Apparently, Clay has been singing her the song, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game". Last night at dinner, she decided to sing it for us (I think she likes to do the 1, 2, 3 with her fingers since she just learned that).
Clay: Hey, Addie, want some blueberries? Addie: What? Clay: Do you want some blueberries? Addie What? Clay: Blueberries? Want some? Addie: What? Clay: What did I just say? Addie: Do I want some blueberries. Clay: So why do you keep asking "What?"? Addie: What?
That is the type of response we've been getting from Addie lately. I thought adolescence and the overly annoying behavior didn't begin until 12 or 13, but it seems to have reared its ugly head early. The stinker asks "What?" after everything now. Not sure if she is having a hard time hearing, but it's amazing how annoying it gets.
We were able to enjoy another day up at the Homestead with the family. Addie slept until almost 10AM again and she got great sleep. Us, not so much and you can see why:
Yes, at one point, both Clay and I were in the bed while she was sleeping like that. Eventually, he moved to the other bed.
That morning, the whole family headed out to go bowling. It was a lot of fun and since we were the only people bowling that morning, it was nice to let the kids run around.
After bowling, we got some yummy shakes and food at Granny's and then headed back to The Homestead for more fun. Addie and Grandpa played in the shade under the playground while the rest of us enjoyed the shade under the trees.
Finally, Addie decided she wanted to go swimming when she saw her cousin, Ali, heading over to the pool. Grandpa was a good sport and got in with her so we wouldn't have to (since we needed to leave soon). Thanks Grandpa!
We finally headed out after a long day and Addie fell asleep shortly after getting in the car. When we got home, I brought her inside and set her on the couch (she was awake) to make her some dinner. I looked over and she had fallen back asleep!

We spent the 4th of July weekend up at the Homestead at a family reunion. There was a lot of things to do and we had such a fun time. Here is a recap of our first day:
We got to bed pretty late the night before and surprisingly, Addie slept until almost 10am even with us up and moving before her! After breakfast, my Grandpa took some of the younger grandkids and Addie (great-grandkid) over for a pony ride. When we got there- there really weren't any ponies so the kids rode on regular horses! It was a pretty short ride- but it was perfect for Addie.
After the pony ride, we went back to the resort and explored, took a little break in the hotel room to cool off and then went to get gelato with everyone who wasn't out golfing. We walked over there and even though it was hot and a little bit of a walk, Addie insisted on walking with her favorite cousin, Ali.
That night, we attended the Oakley Rodeo (a family tradition) and we had a great time. Addie was loving all the animals although, she did look a little concerned when they first started the bronc horse event. She quickly decided that the horses were jumping (instead of bucking) and that it was fun to watch them jump. She also kept wondering why the clowns weren't juggling! She didn't enjoy the fireworks so instead of watching those, we went to look at all the cows and horses.
I went in today for a follow up ultrasound and discovered we were in for a huge shock! Turns out that #2 is NOT a girl.....
It's a BOY!
We were very sure that it was a girl based on the previous ultrasound but apparently he was hiding it pretty well. We are still in shock about it...we were really loving the idea of having two girls.
We've got a lot to do now! We are totally unprepared for a boy!
