We spent two nights and two days in the hospital. Clay came during the day but went home to sleep at night (we figured we needed at least one sane parent). Addie spent the two days with Grandpa and Grandma so Clay could be with me a little longer at night. She had a lot of fun. Thanks Grandpa & Grandma! The stay was pretty good- the first night Will ended up in my room for a good chunk of the night because he decided he wanted to sleep instead of eat. The next morning, he and I just hung out, slept and rested till the early afternoon when people started coming to visit. Clay took Addie out for a little while to pick a present for Will and to have some Daddy time. That night we had quite a few visitors. Thanks to everyone who came to see us. The second night Will spent most of the night in the nursery so I was able to get some rest. They only brought him to me to feed him, then they'd take him back. It was really nice. The next morning it was just me and him at the hospital for most of the morning/early afternoon because Clay was busy at home getting the cradle fixed & ready, putting in the carseat, doing laundry, etc. We finally left the hospital to come home around 4:00. It was so nice to finally be in my own house. Addie was excited and happy to be home and was really cute with Will. Here is another slide show of pictures from the first couple days of Will's life:
I'm sorry for the lack of posts. Finding time to get on the computer is so much harder with two kids! Here is his birth story for those who are interested!I started having contractions on Monday morning. They were irregular and so I just kind of ignored them. Addie and I headed to story time at the library with our friends and then went over to Gardner Village to see the witches. I continued to have contractions but they weren't too bad.
We had a great time at Gardner Village and I'm so glad that Addie and I were able to get out and spend some fun time together before Will arrived. Here are a few pics:
On the way home from Gardner Village, I decided to time the contractions and they were coming regularly at 10 min. apart. We came home, I put Clay and a few others on alert and tried to get a few more things done.
By about 3:00, I called the Dr. and left a message about when I should go to the hospital. They called me a little after 4 and by then, the contractions were coming as close together as 6 min. They told me to head to the hospital to get checked. Clay came home around 5 and my mom came over to be with Addie. Here is our last picture as a family of 3!
We got to the hospital at 6 and they checked me and I was a 3. They told me to walk around for an hour and come back to be checked again. The contractions were getting much stronger and closer together and when they checked me 45 min. later, I was at a 5. So, we got to stay.
I was waiting for my epidural and trying to deal with the contractions that were getting stronger and more painful. One of the on call docs came in to break my water (next time I will be sure to have my epidural BEFORE they break my water) and I was at a 7. The anesthesiologist came in to give me my epidural and it felt like it took forever. I'm sure I was probably at an 8 or 9 by the time he got it in.
As soon as the epidural took effect, I felt a lot of pressure so they checked again and I was complete and Will was ready to come join the world! We got my Dr. there and after a little pushing, Will joined us at 10:22pm! He has a great set of lungs and was letting everyone know that he was here!
It was a great experience (despite the painful contractions at the end there) and I am so grateful it went so fast and well.
Addie wasn't sleeping yet so my parents told her that Will was here and she went running to their front door looking for him! My mom told her he was at the hospital and she replied, "He got BORNED?!"
They brought her to the hospital that night and while she was happy to see baby Will, she was very concerned about me, my IV, the docs and nurses and what they were doing to me.

William (No Middle Name Yet) Blackham was born yesterday. He weighed in at 7.4 pounds and measured 19.5 inches. Both baby and mom are doing great. More details to come.
Still about the same as two weeks ago. Still just fine with it! Still planning to induce on the 24th if he doesn't come on his own before then.We had a little bit of a scare this weekend when I experienced some discomfort in my right leg and there was some concern it could be a blood clot. I just tried to stay off it, keep it elevated and rest and luckily, Sunday morning things were back to normal. It was a bit scary though!This guy loves to hang out on my right side almost all the time- here's a funny picture I took the other day of what I see when I look down! Notice how lopsided my belly is!
For now, we're just trying to take care of the final things on our list (thanks mom for coming to help!) and enjoy our last little bit of time as a family of three. Each morning, I wake up and think, this could be the last day it's just me and Addie. It makes me just want to snuggle, cuddle and kiss her all day long! It's a bittersweet feeling- excited to meet this guy but it is going to bring so much change to our little family. It's hard to imagine being able to love another one as much as I love Addie without taking away from her!We'll update again next week unless something happens before then!
Since this is Addie's blog, I thought I'd post an update on Addie. It's hard to believe we are only a few weeks away from her 3rd birthday. The last three years have just flown by. She's growing up too fast!
She is doing really well in her big girl bed. We've had a few nights where she's wandered out after we put her to bed but it hasn't been bad. She loves being able to get in and out of bed on her own in the morning and after naps. She's not getting quite as much sleep as she was when she was in the crib so she's been a little more emotional lately.
She currently loves to make things- especially anything involving paint, glue and/or cutting.
She loves playing with her friends, being outside, watching Curious George, reading books, going to the library and story time. She has a very active imagination-- she is always telling me that her friends (usually not real people- Mickey, Curious George, Daisy, etc) are coming to our house and she even goes as far as to go out on the porch and call/look for them!
She also loves her dogs (pretend ones). They are like real animals to her and she talks to them, calls for them, takes them for walks with leashes just like they are real. Today she made this house for them while I was working on something on the computer!
She has developed an obsession with tools and we don't know where it came from. Whenever she sees the tool box she has to have something out of it so she can go fix things. A wrench or screwdriver can keep her busy for hours! Every time we are near the toy aisle at Target, she insists she needs this tool kit!
We are proud to say she is completely potty trained! No more pull-ups! All underwear, all the time! She has even started just going in and going to the potty without us some of the time!
For some reason, she has started adding an l to her th sounds- so every time she says thing (and I've noticed she says it a lot), it comes out "thling". I'm not sure why she started doing this. It sounds so funny.
She has been spending some time with a few of her friends and with Grandma so I can go to the Dr. and have some free time to get some things done! It's been nice! Thanks to everyone who has helped out with her!
She is excited to be a big sister and can't wait to meet her little brother!
We hit the 38 week mark this week. I went to the Dr. yesterday and I am still about the same as I was last week (about 1.5 cm and 50% effaced). I am just fine with this. While the end of pregnancy is not my favorite part, it is much easier to take care of him inside my tummy! We are still working on my list of things to do before the baby gets here- but if he were to come anytime, we're pretty much ready for him since he won't actually need the crib/room for at least a few weeks. We will induce on October 24th if he doesn't come on his own before then- 14 days left!Thanks for all the comments and ideas on my previous post. They are very helpful. I'll be sure to do a follow up post with some of the stuff I've found. Keep the ideas coming if you think of more!
As part of my preparation for this baby, I'm trying to come up with a list of activities, crafts, projects and other ideas for Addie to be able to do. I don't want her watching TV all day long so I need to have things on hand to keep her busy. So, if any of you have anything you'd like to share please e-mail me or post a comment! We have reached the 37 week mark in the pregnancy. At this point, the baby "could" come anytime. This pregnancy is so different from my one with Addie- we were hoping she'd come early! We're hoping this guy waits till his due date!We've made progress in the last week. I've had some contractions here and there but nothing to be concerned about yet. He's now dropped down a little so I am officially 1 1/2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. For those of you who have been pregnant before, you know this doesn't really mean much but it sure makes you feel good! He's still measuring a week big but that's within the normal range so there is no concern there. It's hard to believe we are possibly 20 days or less from having two kids. Clay says I'm nesting. To me, it's just trying to keep the house clean and make better use of our limited space. According to Addie, I'm just messing things up (her response to a re-organized toy closet where she can actually SEE what's in there)! I'm proud of what I've done so far and I've made a lot of progress but I've still got some more to do before this guy comes! We'll see what happens during the next week!
