We decided to sign Addie up for summer soccer to see if it was something she'd enjoy. Clay thought it would be fun to be the coach so he volunteered and we gathered a few of Addie's friends to form a team. Addie was really excited to play soccer but most of all that her dad was going to be her coach.
They held a clinic day where all the kids got to meet their coach, pick up their uniforms and have a little soccer clinic. I didn't know they'd be playing any soccer so of course, Addie went in flip flops!
Soccer PracticeThe "Green Monkeys" practice every Wednesday night. The kids can be a little rambuctious and crazy and the first week, Clay was on his own so it was a little chaotic. He did a great job though. They did some stretching, then played some games that had them kicking the ball around and a few little drills. We quickly learned that 30 min. with about ten water breaks was about as long as we could keep them focused! Will loves being out there and thinks he's part of the team!

Soccer GamesClay was unable to attend the first soccer game because he was at Scout Camp so a few of the other Dad's stepped in and helped with the coaching. It was a super hot day- already about 80+ degrees at 8:30 so the kids were a little energy sapped. The first half was a little slow since a lot of the kids had no idea what to actually do and they kept running off the field during the game to get drinks!

Finally, after some half-time oranges (which, Will wasn't quite sure about after getting a bite of the peel), the kids perked up a bit and a few of them got a little more into it- including Addie.
She started kicking the ball a little more and managed to get a great break-away goal all on her own. Clay was sad to miss it. Here is a video and the pictures of it frame by frame.

She was able to score at least one or two more goals and really got in there and tried to get the ball.
It was fun to see her have success and enjoy playing the game. We were so glad Grandma and Grandpa came to help out with Will (he wanted to go out and play!) and to watch her play. After the game, we stopped off to "the Sev" (7-11) to get a slurpee in celebration of the goals!

Game #2We had our second game this morning and it was not as hot this time (thank goodness)! The kids were a little more into it from the very beginning this time and they pretty much all stayed in a pack following the ball around the field.

Addie's cousin, Colton, had missed the first game but was back for this one and he was quite the star. I think he probably scored like 5 or 6 goals (video below), and was everywhere on the field playing offense and defense. He definitely has older siblings and knows what he's doing out there!
Addie had her fair share of kicks today (video below) although no goals. She seemed to be having a good time running around the field till she got a tummy ache from running while needing to go the bathroom (we forgot to go before leaving the house).

All in all, a fun game and the kids (and coaches) had a good time. We were happy to have Grandpa (on his birthday too!), Grandma and Gaga there to watch and cheer the team on (oh yeah, and to keep Will off the field)!

Three more games! If you want to come to any, let me know! They are Saturday mornings!
