This past weekend was the annual Dyna Lagoon Day. We took Addie last year- but she was a little young to really enjoy it. We thought there might be a chance to get her on some other rides this year but she was still a little too small for most of them.
This is kind of a long story but it's pretty funny if you can get all the way through it!!
As soon as we walked through the entrance gate, Addie saw a big fountain and wanted to go touch the water, so we headed that way. We paused for a moment to let some people by and in that second or two, Addie found her "mecca". A display case full of ELMO, Cookie Monster and Big Bird stuffed animals. The kid was in heaven. She just stood there staring at it and finally said, "Mom, I need a new one".
Of course, in order to win any of these, we would be required to play a game of Wac-A-Mole and it would likely cost a small fortune. We tried and tried to convince her that we'd come back and get one later. Unfortunately, she would not move from that spot for anything. Finally, Clay & I ended up playing a game of Wac-A-Mole and I won a small Cookie Monster for her. She was satisfied and we moved on to the Merry-Go-Round.
We waited our turn for the Merry-Go-Round and the whole time we were in line she kept telling me, "I ride Kitty, I ride Rooster, I ride Horsie." So, we were surprised that after only moments of being put on the rooster (the kitty was taken), she said, "all done" and wanted off. So, we got off before it even started. Clay tried again and she finally stayed on sitting in a sled with him.
After dinner, we headed to Rattlesnake Rapids with the family. Addie was too small so she stayed back with Gwampa while the rest of us went and got wet. It was a fun ride and we were pretty wet (or so we thought). We then headed to the Log Flume. Anyone could go on this- including Addie. You do get wet, but in all my experience with it, it's never been too bad. We figured we could protect her. Following the advice of the ride operator, Gwampa & Gwamma sat in the front and we sat in the back (with Addie between us) hoping we wouldn't get as wet.
Addie thought it was fun till we went down the final hill. As we hit the bottom, I leaned back, Clay leaned forward and some water splashed up but it wasn't too bad. Moments later, a big wave of water came pouring over the sides and dumped right on me, Addie & Clay. We all were soaked to the bone. I don't think there was a dry spot on any of us. Poor Addie did not appreciate that and was very mad to be so wet and cold. We felt bad but it was kind of funny to see her so wet and surprised.
Of course, we were not prepared for this! It was 8pm, the sun had gone down and it was pretty cold with wet clothes! Luckily, we had some jammies and a blanket in the car so we changed her into those. She was so happy to be in "warm jammies and a towel!" (I only wish I had those too- I was still wet by the time we got home at midnight!!)
Once she was dry, we went on a train ride, ate a churro and went on the Merry-Go-Round again. We went and watched Uncle Carson face his fear of heights on The Rocket and then Gwampa and Gwamma took Addie home so we could go on a few rides before it closed.
It was a fun time- hopefully next year, Addie will be able to do some of the kiddie rides and we won't be taking her on the log flume again anytime soon.
