Thanksgiving was fun but it was also a little bittersweet for us this year. Over the past several years, my Grandpa Cook's (my mom's dad) health has been declining. Near mid-October he was put on hospice since he really couldn't stand up or get into his wheelchair anymore. Once on hospice, he declined rapidly and passed away on Thanksgiving.
We were so grateful to have been able to celebrate his 82nd birthday just weeks before his passing. It was a fun time for all of us to be together and to celebrate his life and our love for him.
While we are sad he is no longer with us, we are grateful that he was able to go quickly and we know that he is in a better place where we will be with him again. He did not enjoy needing people to care for him! He was the caretaker in the family!
His funeral was a beautiful service. We've always known he was a good man, who was always helping others, but I don't think any of us really knew the full scope of his kindness. I am so grateful for his example in my life and for the time I was able to spend with him, learn with him and have fun with him!
