Big Boy Bed & 500 posts!

This is my 500th blog post! Since it's such big news, it's the perfect one to be my 500th!

Last weekend, we finally moved Will out of the crib and into a big boy bed.  Yes, you heard me right- he was still in his crib at 3.5!  He had never tried to climb out and he loved his crib and I loved having him in his crib because I knew he was in there till I got him out!

There have been a lot of changes for him lately but we needed to get him sleeping in a regular bed on his own well before we have to move him in with Addie when the baby comes.  He doesn't really like change so we tried to build it up for weeks before we moved him.

Last Saturday, we decided to go for it.  We went to Target that morning and let him pick out some sheets (hoping that would help him like it more) and then while we were at a birthday party, Clay picked up the other twin bed (that matches Addie's) from Grandpa and Grandma's house.

We decided to keep the crib up because it's a pain to put together and Clay didn't want to have to do that again in a few months.  It took some re-arranging and it's a little tight on one wall but it saves a lot of work down the road!

He was a little skeptical of it at first- and wouldn't lay on it once it was all set up.  When bedtime rolled around, he was nervous and wanted me to lay with him for a little bit and sing some songs but he was fine when I left.   Doesn't he look so tiny in that big bed!

We forgot what a crazy sleeper is and about an hour after he went to sleep, he fell out of the bed and hit his head.  I got him calmed down and back in bed and he went back to sleep while Clay went out to try and find a guard rail! Unfortunately, no one that was still open had one but we didn't hear anymore from Will the rest of the night (and he hasn't fallen out since).

So far, it's been a pretty easy transition.  He is still taking his naps just fine and he even waits for me to come into his room to get out of bed in the morning or after his nap!  Most of the time he just lays there quietly....and I don't even know he's awake!   He told me he can't get out of bed when it's dark because there are crabs on the floor. :)  I know that won't last long but we'll take it as long as we can!

He's very particular about what he has on his bed (unlike his sister!)- he likes his blanket and his binkies (next thing to go!), his adopted care bear, his Cars baby blanket and about 10 bebes (loveys) that he uses to build a "tower" (notice the pile on the bed) next to him.  If you put anything else on the bed (like a stuffed animal, the train blanket and the angry bird blanket) they are usually thrown off before he falls asleep because they were "bugging" him!

We used to sing to him in the dark while he drank his milk before bed and we usually "snuggle" or lay with Addie for a few minutes each night so I thought he might like for us to do that- but most nights, he tells us he doesn't want a song or us to lay by him-- he wants us to GET OUT so he can go to sleep!  He's such a crackup. Wish I could keep him like this forever.
