Swimming Lessons- Week One

Growing up, summertime always meant swimming lessons. So, I decided it would be a good idea to sign the kids up for swimming lessons (especially with our upcoming Cali trip). We'd been swimming a few times but Addie needed a refresher and I thought it might be good for Will too- even though it was already pretty comfortable with the water!

With Addie's anxiety (and with the way swimming lessons were last year), I thought for sure she would have a hard time with it. We signed up with a few friends though and she did GREAT. She and her friends were swimming around (and probably playing more than listening) and she was jumping off the sides with no problem! Huge improvement from last year!

It was WILL that was being a stinker this time!!! He cried most of the first day and he wouldn't even go in the water (unless his class was on the other side of the pool)! I didn't push him too hard because I didn't want to scare him from the water but we did make him get in the water with his class a few times.

He loved playing in the water by himself when they were on the other side of the pool!

The third day, Addie's class went off the diving board! I bribed Addie with the remainder of her fuzzies (she had 10 left to earn her princess fingernail polish set) and she jumped off the DIVING BOARD with a little encouragement and help out there from me (luckily my friend was there with her camera and she got some great pictures)! SO PROUD of her!!!!

By the end of the week, Will was a little more relaxed and he even let his teacher take him out for a couple of rounds of floating and kicking without a fuss! There might even be a hint of a smile there, or maybe it was just bright! ;)

Addie was doing really well with her strokes and gaining confidence in her swimming abilities sans life jacket!

She was excited to try another jump off the diving board for more fuzzies but got nervous once she was on the board. She didn't like the feeling of walking from the end of the bars to the end of the board and was about to give up when one of the lifeguards offered to help her walk to the end. Once she was there, he let go and she jumped all on her own! She was pretty proud of herself!

First week of lessons done!
